The HYBRIDA Research Group resumes its Young Professionals and Researchers Series in person. The International Master’s Degree in Migration of the Universitat de València is collaborating in this new series. This workshop-conference, led by Henry F. Vásquez Sáenz, will focus on the relations between theatre and migration. It will also specifically approach Matei Visniec’s play Migraaaantes.
Visniec is a French writer and dramaturg of Romanian origin that stands out thanks to his preoccupation and sensibility when portraying the conflicts of current society. One of them is an issue of great complexity and societal impact: the ongoing crisis in Europe due to the massive arrival of migrants and refugees from different parts of the world. With a strong social basis that is not exempt of humour, Visniec’s plays, in particular Migraaaantes, published in French in 2017, draw attention to the horrors of an European society that is unfazed by the reality of migration and is preparing new anti-immigration technologies to curb the dreams and hopes for a better life of people of uncertain and, in the majority of cases, tragic fate.
Henry F. Vásquez Sáenz, currently French Studies professor at the University of Cádiz, holds a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures by the Universitat de València, where he also earned a Master’s Degree in Creative and Humanistic Translation and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Teaching Training. He received a research grant from the Valencian government to carry out a doctoral thesis on the work by French-Argentinian dramaturg Copi, conducted under international co-supervision (Valencia/Strasbourg) and defended in 2020. His research trajectory focuses on the ‘trans’ processes and strategies from the standpoint of transculturality, transexuality and transgenericity. He has completed several stays abroad, notably at the University of Buenos Aires, the University of Aix-Marseille and the University of Sorbonne.
The workshop-conference will take place in person on Wednesday 26 May 2021 at 18:00 in the A32 classroom of Aulario III at the Faculty of Psychology.
