"I International Conference on Digital Humanities and Cultural Pedagogies"
Digital is transforming society and, with it, ourselves. This technological development has the capacity not only to allow us to “do things”, but to “learn to think with this way of doing things”. We do many things digitally, yes, but we also develop digitalised ways of thinking about things.
But in the face of daily digital work, what happens when the humanities and pedagogy acquire digital status? Does digital status imply only the appropriation of a tool or the change in nature of these disciplines? And since digital is present in both, are there shared educational purposes?
The digital humanities, that great conceptual umbrella that groups together all the disciplines that capture, analyse and present cultural and social dynamics on the network, represent a stage of interdisciplinary development in full swing. They not only seek to convert cultural heritage into ones and zeros, to study digitalised cultural objects and, with this, to alter their research procedures and tools, but the digital humanities are also communities, citizens, generations and models of society. Digital humanities concern everyone.
Cultural pedagogy as a concept promotes the study of the educational dimension of culture for personal and social development. It has always been necessary, but now it has been shaken by the digital. Since there are few educational projects that are detached from the digital, it is necessary for education to rethink some conceptual assumptions that are more closely linked to teaching and learning and to face the challenge of why, for what, what, with what, when or with whom to learn in digital environments. For pedagogy, the digital implies not only new materials, but also other perspectives and nuclei of educational analysis.
With this aim, there are two lines of development that are sought to be crossed in this congress.
On the one hand, what does the dematerialization of cultural heritage mean for pedagogy? And what educational aspects can be found in the emerging digital humanities? The truth is that the digital does not leave both disciplines unmoved.
Objectives:
- To create a space for interdisciplinary debate between digital humanities and cultural pedagogy in order to identify their common points of contact, dilemmas and challenges.
- To identify lines of research in cultural pedagogy enhanced by developments in Digital Humanities.
- To evaluate the impact and future of Digital Humanities in educational research.
