Programme Background

The Doctoral Programme on Communication and Interculturality, which has an interdisciplinary character and aims to train specialist doctors capable of rigorously analysing the transformations of the modern world in the current circumstances of change and continuous transformation, comes from the former doctorates of the Department of Language Theory.

These doctoral programmes included the areas of Audiovisual Communication, General Linguistics, Translation and Interpretation and Journalism, attending to the different discursive responses that appeared in the information society from a world where migrations, globalisation, acceleration of communications and political, social and communicative transformations, generated a great amount of questions that affected linguistic, semiotic, informative, political, social and historical problems.

The Doctoral Programme, in addition, is linked to Master’s Degree studies already functioning since the 2009-2010 academic year: the Master's Degree in Interculturalism and Communication Policies in the Information Society, which is organised by the Department of Language Theory of the Universitat de València.

At the moment this Master’s Degree has modified both its denomination and its credits; now it is called Master’s Degree in Interculturalism, Communication and European Studies and has 120 ECTS Credits.
