The European project Education and Professional Training in Circular Economy (CIRCVET) has presented its progress at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The UV Chair for Transformation of the Economic Model: Circular Economy in the Water Sector of the Valencia Government and the Universitat de València (GVA-UV) acted as a member of the Advisory Council.

The members of the Chair have extensive experience in training matters and in initiating national and international projects in the field of circular economy. Most notably, the Chair’s work on CIRCVET is based on advising on the development of a training platform and monitoring the evolution of the different phases of the project, attending meetings of the steering committee, as well as receiving, analysing and commenting on actions related to the project’s objectives.

According to the director of the GVA-UV Chair, Francesc Hernández, the role of researchers within the CIRCVET project involves “supporting and promoting the transformation of a production model that moves towards a circular economy, in the case plastics, whose production has increased immensely in the last decades and whose recycling represents a major challenge for which sustainable solutions are being sought.”

Specifically, the CIRCVET initiative aims to reach sustainability in the plastics sector and its results will be enforced in at least 6 European countries--France, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Lithuania and Spain--that form part of this project.

Among the objectives for the project, coordinated by the Technological Institute for children’s and Leisure Products (AIJU), is the development of a circular economy training platform in the plastics sector that covers the entire value chain and adapts to the needs of its companies by creating a solid interaction between universities, vocational training centres and the companies in the sector themselves.
