The Chair for the Transformation of the Economic Model: Circular Economy (GVA-UV) participates in the meeting Statistics & Economics Specialist Group of the International Water Association (IWA) held in Cyprus with the objective of debating different possibilities of implementing a new economic model based on circular management of water resources.
Last April, the Chair for the Transformation of the Economic Model: Circular Economy, directed by Francesc Hernández, participated in the Statistics and Economics Specialist Group of the International Water Association (IWA) meeting held in the Neapolis University of Cyprus to address a common strategy in the transformation of the economic model towards circular economy in the water sector.
The International Water Association (IWA) is an organisation with more than 10,000 professionals dedicated to water management in more than 140 countries. Their mission is to develop and share knowledge, drive innovation and face the challenge of sustainability in water resources' management. The IWA organises event, publishes research, promotes technologies and offers services in the water sector, always seeking efficiency and optimisation in the use of such a valuable resource as water.
In the Statistics & Economics Specialist Group of the IWA meeting, it was addressed the role of regulatory entities in the water sector and the possibilities to develop management models that guarantee the efficacy and circularity in the use of water resources. According to the Chair's director, an integrated management model should be promoted, with a comprehensive approach that facilitates a more efficient use of resources, optimising their consumption and reducing the generation of waste which, in turn, can be reused, contributing to the creation of more sustainable systems.
Professor Hernández points out that in order to do this, we should promote the collaboration between different actors, both public and private, which would allow the development of coordinated and effective solutions. He argues that this provides a greater capacity to adapt and respond to unforeseen situations, increasing their resilience in the event of a crisis.
He believes that the key to success regarding the implementation of circular economy relies on the possibility to develop an integral management model that allows us to achieve balance between efficiency, sustainability and service quality.
