Denmark takes over on 1 January the Presidency of the Counsel of the European Union during the second semester of 2025, according to the rotation system between the 27 member countries. It happened in Poland, who directed the Counsel of the EU in the first semester of 2025.

The Presidency on duty represents the Counsel in their relations with other institutions from the European Union, among which the European Commission and the European Parliament stand out. Denmark does the rotatory Presidency of the Counsel as an integrant of a Presidency Trio along with Poland and Cyprus.

The European Union confronts a new international order mark by uncertainty, strategic competency and global economy and the increasing levels of conflict. For this reason the EU must be able to act on their own. Under the motto “A strong Europe in a changing world”, the programme of the Danish Presidency will work to guarantee that the EU takes over the responsibility of their own safety at the same time as they reinforce their competitiveness. About the panel on the Danish Presidency agenda, the green transition will have an important weight to go hand in hand with the construction of a more safe and competitive Europe. This way, the new Presidency of the Counsel will have two general priorities: green safety and competitiveness.
