Escena Erasmus UV arrives on Wednesday, 24 June (7.30 p.m.) to the Echegaray Theatre in Ontinyent with their show ‘Conquistes’ (‘Conquests’), a scenic proposal that tackles historical and contemporary wounds from a human and restorative perspective.

It will be the twelfth time that the European theatre project from the Universitat de València visits the capital of the Vall d’Albaida, exercising the synergy and collaboration between the Universitat de València and the City Council of Ontinyent.

The entrance is free with invitation (until full capacity is reached), which can be picked up at the Casa de la Cultura (calle Maians, 26, Ontinyent) on 22 and 23 June, or the day of the show at the theatre box office from one hour before the start.

With ‘Conquestes’, Escena Erasmus UV, 2023 Honorary Award of Valencian Scenic Arts lays out a scenic reflection on the idea of conquest, understood not only as a historical fact, but also as a current reality that goes through memory, identity, and human relations. The show tackles issues such as social, personal, and political conquests, as well as resistance, reconciliation, and retirement processes it implies. 

With the dramaturgy coordinated by Guadalupe Sáez and directed by Josep Valero, it has been jointly created by a team of authors composed of Guadalupe Sáez, Aarón Sánchez, Patricia Michele Cabrera, Mariana Hartasánchez, Jacobo Pallarés, Emma Cases, and Maria Andrés. The performance will be conducted by a cast of eleven students both Erasmus and Valencian: Guillem Borrego, Luz del Alba Cardillo, Emma Cases, Giulia Linzalata, Arina Firstova, Doucia López-Pueyo, Julia Moreno, Sergio Muñoz, Linda Revenko, Sofia Simonetto, and Inés Sola. 

The scenic proposal is based on the idea of restoration as the central theme: is not about erasing the past, but about listening to it and creating spaces for comprehension. Through this point of view, ‘Conquestes’ invites to rethink about historical episodes and current conflicts, while it focuses on intimate and daily conquests that define human experience.

‘Conquestes’ is produced by the Universitat de València, managed by the Fundació General of the Universitat de València, supported by the Institut Valencià de la Joventut (IVAJ) and the Cultural Area at the Diputación de Valencia. The performance in Ontinyent features also UVSociety and the Concejalía de Cultura of the City Council.
