The Serenates Festival is coming to an end with a week full of performances that manifest the artistic diversity which has characterised this 39th edition.
From 29 June to 2 July, the Centre Cultural La Nau faculty will host four proposals ranging from band music, female chorus creation, the mixed sounds of jazz and Latin American music, and a scenic production which combines baroque music and dance. This schedule is evidence of how the festival serves as a way to connect tradition and innovation through diverse artistic languages.
This week will begin on Monday 29 June with “Ecos de l’horta i la metròpoli: paisatges, festa i tradició”, a concert by the Banda Simfònica Unió Musical l’Horta de Sant Marcel·lí with the collaboration of the Certamen Internacional de Bandes Ciutat de València (CIBM). This programme takes the audience on a musical journey to the Valencian identity with works by Manuel Morales, Rafael Talens, Manuel Palau, Merche Femenía and Franco Cesarini. From the folkloric sensibility of “Cançons de mare” to the festive energy of “Femme Força” or the descriptive monumentality of "Images of a City", this concert creates a dialogue between the countryside tradition and the dynamism of contemporary cities.
On Tuesday 30 June, Cor de Dones A cau d’orella alongside Quintet Casulana will go on stage with their commemorative show “Dona i veu: 20 anys cantant” to celebrate their twentieth anniversary. This group will offer a programme created and performed by women, reclaiming their role in the history of music and letting artworks created by women shine. The Cor was founded with the intention of exploring the sound possibilities of equal female voices and it has carried out an intense job of promoting and expanding this repertoire for two decades. Combining vocal textures with accompanying instruments creates a proposal especially focused on celebrating one of the most representative female chorus groups in Valencia.
The event will continue on 1 July with a performance by Tonina, a North American singer, composer and double bass player who has been praised for her ability to integrate influences from jazz, soul music, Latin American music into her own songs. This artist born in San Diego and trained in many cultural traditions has built her own musical language, in which her voice and her double bass converse with each other with spontaneity and sophistication. Her creative universe stands out for its rhythmical richness, melodic sensitivity and great communicative skills, which turn each of her concerts into an intimate yet vibrant experience.
The festival will conclude on Thursday 2 July with “Passió barroca”, a production created by Harmonia del Parnàs and directed by Marian Rosa Montagut, which combines historical music and dance into a multidisciplinary scenic proposal. With a selection of fragments from the opera "Alcina" by Georg Friedrich Händel, this show takes the audience on a journey through the universe of human passions: love, desire, hope, fear, pain or humiliation. The proposal also incorporates some hints of Antonio Vivaldi’s music and expands its message through contemporary dance and tango as well, resulting in an artistic experience of great emotional intensity that highlights the validity of baroque affections and concludes Serenates 2026 with a highly demanding interpretative and visual production.
