The DERGLO Research Group Participates in the 32nd World Congress of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR 2026) in Estambul

The DERGLO Research Group participated in the 32nd World Congress of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR 2026), held from 28 June to 3 July 2026 at Kadir Has University in Istanbul (Türkiye), under the theme Law in the Face of the Changing Problems of the World.

The group's participation took place within Special Workshop 88, Intergenerational Justice and the Right to the Future: Reflections from the Legal-Philosophical Thought of Jesús Ballesteros, an international forum devoted to examining the contemporary relevance of Professor Jesús Ballesteros' legal-philosophical thought in addressing some of today's most pressing legal and ethical challenges, including the protection of future generations, sustainability, human dignity, peace, and the impact of technological change.

The members of DERGLO presented a range of research papers:

Lucía Aparicio Chofré examined the growing "playful" dimension of contemporary armed conflicts and new forms of violence. Drawing on the thought of Jesús Ballesteros, her research highlighted the importance of critical education, reliable information, and human rights as essential tools for counteracting dehumanisation and fostering a genuine culture of peace.

Vicente Bellver Capella explored the concept of intergenerational justice from the perspective of Jesús Ballesteros' political philosophy. His presentation analysed how technological development has transformed relationships between generations and proposed new ways of understanding legal and political responsibilities towards future generations.

In her presentation, Encarnación Fernández Ruiz-Gálvez focused on reciprocity and solidarity as the cornerstones of intergenerational justice. Her research examined both parent-child relationships and the shared responsibility to preserve the environment in order to guarantee the fulfilment of the needs of present and future generations.

Ana-Paz Garibo Peyró addressed the transition from responsibility to justice in relation to future generations. Her paper argued that sustainability and environmental protection are inseparable from human dignity and may provide the basis for recognising the rights of those who have not yet been born.

Ana Strineka Bande examined some of the most significant contemporary debates concerning the foundations of human rights. Her presentation analysed the role of human dignity as the ultimate foundation of rights while addressing the challenges posed by purely normative approaches to legal theory.

Ana Colomer Segura investigated the relationship between personalist ecology and environmental justice activism, bringing philosophical reflection into dialogue with social activism. Her contribution emphasised the defence of human dignity, non-violence, and the protection of those who are especially vulnerable to environmental harm.

Blanca Lirio Asensio offered a reflection on vulnerability and care through a reading of Leo Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Ilyich. Her research argued that intergenerational justice should extend beyond the distribution of resources to include duties of care towards older persons, the sick, and those in situations of dependency as a matter of justice rooted in the inherent dignity of every human being.

The group's participation in this international congress strengthens DERGLO's international research profile and reinforces its engagement with global academic networks in the fields of legal philosophy, theories of justice, and human rights. It also reaffirms DERGLO's commitment to rigorous, interdisciplinary, and internationally oriented research aimed at addressing the major legal and ethical challenges of our time.
