On 11 and 12 November 2026, the Universitat de València (UV) will be host to the International Congress “Risk, responsibility and trust in digital society”. This event will bring together specialist in Civil Law, Mercantile Law, Administrative Law and International Law, as well as experts in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and technology, in order to analyse the legal challenges posed by digitalisation.
The congress will be celebrated in the Aula Magna at the Centre Cultural La Nau (C/ Universitat 2, València). It will be organised by the Institute of Patrimonial Law from the UV alongside the Department of Private Law from the Universidade da Coruña (UDC), with the collaboration of the Departments of Mercantile Law “Manuel Broseta Pont” and Civil Law from the UV.
Full university professors from the UV María Luisa Atienza, Juan Bataller, Josefina Boquera and María Dolores Mas will act as the scientific directors, alongside María del Rocío Quintáns, from the UDC. The scientific committee will be formed by over twenty full time professors of Civil Law, Mercantile Law and Administrative Law from Spanish universities, among which are the Complutense University of Madrid, the UNED, the Universidad de Alcalá, the Universidad de Sevilla, the University of Deusto, the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the University of La Rioja, the University of Alacant (UA), the Universitat Jaume I and the Universitat de València itself.
A programme focused on artificial intelligence and its risks
Dr Martin Ebers, president of the Robotics & AI Law Society (RAILS) and lecturer in IT Law from the University of Tartu (Estonia), will be in charge of the opening session celebrated on Wednesday, 11 November 2026.
Throughout the two days of this congress, there will be five panel discussions to cover the following topics, among others: the automation of legal businesses; cyber-risks, identity and digital assets; the opacity of artificial intelligence algorithms (“black box”); AI systems as agents that advise and act; and the challenges posed by AI and assistant robotics in the matters of housing and aging of elderly people. Moreover, there will be a contest for the best posters and academic papers, with its own public defence and award ceremony, as well as a closing conference on Thursday, 12 November.
Among the confirmed speakers, we find specialists from universities such as the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, the University of Valladolid, the University of Granada, the Universitat Politècnica de València, the University of Córdoba, the Universitat de Barcelona, the UDC and the UA. Moreover, professionals in the fields of business and law, such as representatives from Indra Sistemas, S2Grupo and the Spanish Council of State, as well as international academics from Italy and Estonia, will also participate.
Registering
Attendees will be able to enjoy the congress in person or online. The anticipated registration quota (until 30 July 2026) is 125 euros for in-person attendance and 100 euros for online attendance. From that date on, the regular registration price will go up to 175 and 125 euros respectively. There is also a reduced fee for participants in the academic papers and posters contest. In-person attendance includes lunch on Thursday and those registering online will have access to the link twelve hours in advance.
Those who wish to present their academic papers or posters must send their proposal before 7 September 2026. Once it is accepted, the final file must be sent before 28 September 2026.
