On 1 October, the “Edadismo y Seguro” (“Ageism and Insurance”) event, an academic meeting that will address the discrimination on the basis of age in the matter of the private insurance of health assistance.
The “Edadismo y Seguro” (“Ageism and Insurance”) activity will take place in the Conference Room at the Faculty of Law (Avda. Tarongers s/n) from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and it will also be available via live stream.

Programme of the event
The opening ceremony will be undertaken by Maria Dolores Mas Badia, professor of Civil Law at the Universitat de València.
The first table, "EL SEGURO PRIVADO DE ASISTENCIA SANITARIA" (“The Private Insurance of Health Assistance”), will be moderated by Fernando Carbajo Cascón, professor of Mercantile Law at the University of Salamanca, and it will feature lectures by:
- Juan Bataller Grau (Universitat de València): El riesgo objeto de cobertura (“The risk covered by the insurance”)
- Pablo Martínez-Gijón Machuca (University of Seville): La singular caracterización de la prestación a cargo del asegurador. El incumplimiento de la prestación del asegurador: en particular, la aplicación del régimen del artículo 20 LCS. (“The distinctive nature of the insurer’s obligation. Breach of the insurer’s obligation: in particular, the application of the regime laid down in Article 20 of the Insurance Agreement Law”)
- Pilar Domínguez Martínez (University of Castilla-La Mancha): El clausulado del contrato: cláusulas delimitadoras, limitativas, lesivas, abusivas. (“The terms of the contract: clauses defining the scope of cover, restrictive clauses, detrimental clauses and unfair terms.”)
- Rafael La Casa García (University of Seville): La prima del seguro en el seguro de asistencia sanitaria y la duración del contrato: en particular, su prórroga. (“The insurance premium in health insurance and the duration of the contract: in particular, its renewal”)
The second table, "EDADISME I ASSEGURANÇA" ("Ageism and Insurance") will be moderated by Nuria Latorre Chiner, professor of Mercantile Law at the Universitat de València, with the following lectures:
- Carmen González Carrasco (University of Castilla-La Mancha): La discriminación en el seguro de asistencia sanitaria. (“Discrimination within the insurance of health assistance”)
- Paola Rodas Paredes (Universitat de València): El deber de declaración del riesgo, enfermedades preexistentes y olvido oncológico. ("The duty to disclose the risk, pre-existing conditions and the right to be forgotten for cancer survivors")
- Elena Turrión Gonzalbez, executive vice-president of Mutua de Levante: El seguro de accidentes para mayores.("Accident insurance for the elderly")
The event is included in "El modern Dret de l'assegurança" (CIPROM/2024/75) and "Cap a la prevenció de l'edadisme: una visió iusprivatista" (PID2024-159634NB-100) projects. Both from the University Institute of Patrimonial Law (Patrimonium) at the Universitat de València.
