Lines of research

  • Physical Therapy and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Evaluate the effect of therapeutic exercise and PT on cardiocirculatory function in adults and older people with cardiovascular diseases, as well as to study the effectiveness of strategies that improve their ability to stick to a physically active lifestyle.

  • Physical Therapy specialised in neurological pathology, childhood pathology and psychomotor development. This line of research focuses on the study of evaluation tools, and health promotion and physiotherapeutic intervention programmes specialised in children with altered psychomotor development, as well as in children or adults with neurological pathologies.

  • Chronic musculoskeletal pain: from pain mechanisms to diagnosis and treatment through Physical Therapy. The goal of this line of research is to investigate pathophysiological mechanisms that underlie chronic pain, and to test the therapeutic efficacy of treatments targeting these mechanisms.

  • Physical Therapy specialised in musculoskeletal injuries of haemophilic patients. Delve into the understanding of common musculoskeletal injuries in patients with haemophilia and their sequelae, as well as to design and validate evaluation methods. Study the effectiveness of PT techniques and protocols to improve physical function and quality of life.

  • Research on health services and public health interventions. This line focuses on research in health services and technologies applied to health, as well as on the design, execution and evaluation of health promotion and disease prevention interventions.

  • Physiotherapeutic approach to evaluation and treatment of patients with respiratory health issues. Physical Therapy, as a whole, can improve the health of people with respiratory issues. This line of research aims at developing new tools and implementing interventions that allow to evaluate the prognosis of these patients and to improve their functional capacity.

  • Professional Ethics and health in physical therapy. Analyse attitudes, professional values and other parameters related to professional ethics and health in physical therapists, physiotherapy students and patients. Design and validate evaluation tools. Study the effectiveness of innovative programmes on ethics and health in physical therapy.

  • Physical Therapy specialised in the abdominal, pelvic and perineal compartment. Delve into the understanding of the main dysfunctions of the abdominal, pelvic and perineal compartment in women, men and children. Analyse the effectiveness of different physical therapy techniques and procedures for physical function improvement, in order to improve the quality of life of those affected. Design PT programmes that target better the groups which are commonly affected by each pathology. Unify scientific and clinical evidence to improve the effectiveness and rigour of treatments.
