The Research Group on the Reception of Classical Literature (GIRLC) is organising an interdisciplinary meeting in the form of an international congress. The theme of the congress is the reception of eschatological literature in a broad sense, based on the Classical legacy. The meeting will cover topics such as apocalypse, millenarianism and journeys to the underworld. Other ancient literary themes include the use of magic to resurrect or rejuvenate a person, transmigration or metempsychosis of souls, or the protagonist’s visit to supernatural worlds after death, whether real or fictitious.

This meeting addresses the same problem as the previous editions since 2008: the prevalence of ancient literature in medieval literature and, subsequently, in modern and contemporary literature. Participants will first discuss the reception of Greek and Latin literature in different national literatures. Then, they will focus on authors, works and specific texts of particular relevance. The main goals are to showcase the Group’s research on the reception of Latin and Greek literature in medieval Catalan literature, and to promote an inclusive research process that integrates the expertise and contributions of experts from diverse fields.
