The Research Group on the Reception of Classical Literature (GIRLC - GIUV2013-034) is based in the Department of Classical Languages at the Universitat de València and comprises members from the department and other research centers.

Our research project aims to address the philological, literary, and social study of the reception of themes and motifs from ancient Greco-Latin literature in later literary traditions. To this end, we understand Greco-Latin literature broadly, including its later periods (that is, both Greek and Latin Christian literature, medieval Latin literature, Byzantine literature, and the Renaissance and humanistic realms), and we undertake the study of its reception up to the present day.

The current working and research group originated and continues the research developed between 2005 and 2008 within the project Greek sources in medieval Catalan literature (HUM2005/07697). The accumulated experience (managing literary and bibliographical sources, computerised text processing, organising seminars and scientific conferences, publishing research results, among others) has allowed us to subsequently undertake research projected onto the entirety of European literatures and up to the present day in various research projects.

The Research Group on the Reception of Classical Literature (GIRLC) has been registered as a Consolidated Research Group of the Universitat de València since November 2014 (Resolution RESINS_GIUV002_28112014 of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Research and Scientific Policy). GIRLC has regularly received grants from various institutions (GVA, UV, MEC, MINECO) for the organisation of the team’s scientific activities.
