The main aim of this research project is to analyse hagiographic narratives with feminine protagonists, paying particular attention to narrative choices literary clichés. In addition, this project aims to assess the extent to which these clichés are shared or not with masculine hagiography and other contemporary literary genres, and to try to determine the reasons for their use or insistence in certain contexts, especially in relation to the edification or education of women in late antiquity.
The long-term aim, which exceeds the duration of this project, is to elaborate a systematic repertory of literary clichés in hagiographic literature, which could serve as a model and the first constituent element in the elaboration of a genuine index of this literary genre from a feminine perspective, for which this project is intended to be a necessary starting point. Finally, the project does not intend to limit itself to the mere identification of specific structures and their presence in the identified works, but also to include a whole philological discussion, so that the resulting repertoire can serve as a reference work for the study of this literature. Moreover, such a repertory would be of great use both for the subsequent study of Greek literature and for the study of other modern traditions that ultimately fed on it through Latin texts or texts written in other languages.
