The Research Group in Teaching of Languages (GIEL) is a group from the Department of Language and Literature Teaching of the University of Valencia. It is comprised of researchers in first, second and foreign language teaching (Spanish, Catalan, French and English). The group’s primary interest focuses in language teaching and learning, and the role of grammar in relation to the mastery of language skills in multilingual contexts, from Childhood Education to University. Since 2014, GIEL is a recognised group of the University of Valencia (INV_GIUV13).

The group is currently coordinated by Carmen Rodríguez Gonzalo and researchers and doctoral students of the University of Valencia (UVEG), University Jaume I of Castellón (UJI) and Leeds Metropolitan University (UK) participate as well.

The group’s activity focuses in two types of fundamental tasks, which are carried out in an interrelated manner: research in teaching approach and the transfer of knowledge. The group has the collaboration of centres and Pre-school, Primary and Secondary teachers in projects and activities of educational innovation and teacher training.
