Since its establishment in 1997, the Research and Theatrical Action Group of the Universitat de València (GRATUV) aims to provide a space for ongoing reflection on all aspects of theatrical arts. In addition, GRATUV serves as an open forum for university research, theatre professionals and society as a whole to meet and interact.
The multiphilological composition of GRATUV allows for an approach to theatrical arts from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives. This approach is situated within the broad framework of Western culture and seeks a synthesis that materialises in three interrelated forms which can only be isolated in the abstract: research, dissemination and action. Research in theatre involves scientific publications, meetings and workshops with theatre professionals and members from other universities. Dissemination comprises talks and panel discussions that are open to the general public and encourage active participation from society. Action is taken through adaptations, creations and recreations of dramatic works, which can be used as dramatic texts or performed on stage.
