GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Improved the quality of life of more than 50% of families in the village of La Blanca, Department of Petén, Guatemala.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- Enabled sustainable natural and cultural tourism in the community of La Blanca, Guatemalan Department of Petén
- Designed and implemented the sustainable cultural and natural tourism circuits of the community of La Blanca, Department of Petén, Guatemala.
- Established the network of community kitchens in the houses of La Blanca that serve tourists who arrive in the village after passing through the archaeological site of La Blanca.
- Strengthened the community of La Blanca through training activities aimed at knowledge, management and dissemination of the cultural and natural heritage of the archaeological site and the village.
RESULTS
- Integrated the La Blanca village into the sustainable cultural tourism circuits of the Department of Petén, Guatemala, as a pilot initiative to reinforce regional archaeological tourism and with the capacity to contribute to community well-being and development
- Defined, described and marked the heritage potentials of the village of La Blanca, Department of Petén, Guatemala
- Strengthened the family economy of at least 15% of the most disadvantaged families in the village of La Blanca through traditional culinary activities led by women from the community
- Achieved the active and significant participation of at least 50% of the families of the La Blanca village in the sustainable natural and cultural tourism activities designed and implemented by the project
ACTIVITIES
- Include a visit to the La Blanca village as part of the tourist circuit developed in the archaeological site of La Blanca, Department of Petén, Guatemala.
- Offer the package “Sustainable cultural tourism in La Blanca: archaeological past and community present” in travel agencies and tour operators on the Island of Flores, Department of Petén, Guatemala.
- It is agreed with the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) to integrate the package “sustainable cultural tourism in La Blanca: archaeological past and community present” in its tourist offer.
- Establish an area at the entrance to the village of La Blanca, next to the lagoon, for the reception of visitors and tourists.
- Build an open-air architectural structure in the area set up at the entrance to La Blanca, next to the lagoon, for the reception of visitors and tourists.
