Sollidarity with the victims of the earthquake in Colombia. Contribute.

The University of Valencia wishes to express its profound dismay at the tragedy currently being experienced in Colombia as a result of the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the west of the country on 10 August, with its epicentre near San José del Palmar, in the department of Chocó.

The earthquake has caused more than 280 fatalities and over 3,900 injuries, as well as extensive material damage. Many families have lost their homes, and there are still people awaiting news of their loved ones. Pereira and Cali are among the most affected cities, with collapsed buildings and housing, damage to hospitals, and disruptions to basic services. Emergency teams continue to work on search, rescue, and assistance tasks for the affected population.

From the University of Valencia, we extend our condolences to the families of the victims and express our full solidarity with those affected and with Colombian society as a whole.

We also wish to express our special support to the Colombian university community, to the universities and academic institutions in the affected areas, and, in particular, to the Colombian people who study, conduct research, or work at the University of Valencia and are experiencing these moments with concern for their families, friends, and loved ones.

In response to this emergency situation, and as previously done for the emergency in Venezuela, the University of Valencia has launched a solidarity donation campaign to contribute to aiding those affected by the earthquake.

We call on the entire university community—teaching and research staff, technical, management, and administrative services staff, and students—to demonstrate their solidarity with those affected.

To issue the corresponding donation certificate, please send an email to comptabilitat@uv.es indicating the donor’s details.

The funds raised will be allocated to support NGOs with a presence on the ground in the affected areas, in order to contribute to assisting the victims and those impacted by the earthquake.

Donations made to the University of Valencia are eligible for the tax deductions provided for in Law 49/2002 of 23 December, on the tax regime for non-profit entities and tax incentives for patronage, as amended by Royal Decree-Law 6/2023 of 19 December.

In general terms:
Individuals (Personal Income Tax – IRPF):

• 80% deduction on the first €250 donated.
• 40% on the amount exceeding €250.
• 45% on the excess if donations have been made to the same entity for at least the two previous tax years, for an equal or higher amount.

Certificates attesting to donations may be issued before the start of the income tax campaign for the corresponding tax year.
