This project focused on strengthening the visual therapy and rehabilitation clinic that the Valencia Regional Health Center has in El Salvador, focusing on patient care, training through promoting a clinic-school and the production and socialization of scientific research. The assistance that is intended to be provided to the patient is focused on the reeducation and retraining of the eye, that is, rehabilitation and therapy. In addition, it is intended to offer a treatment alternative that contributes to reducing surgical intervention, as well as offering postoperative care that guarantees the success of said interventions. It is important to mention that this would make it possible to meet a demand at the national level.

The clinic also becomes a training and learning school for optometry bachelor's students who require some courses within their study plan, as well as a space for specialization for graduates in that degree (optometrists, orthoptics, among others) through the organization of diploma courses and specialized courses.

Specializations in the area of optometry can only be done outside of El Salvador, so it becomes a training opportunity for the country, enabling El Salvador to be a benchmark in that area at the Central American level. It is important to mention that the field of optometry in El Salvador does not have a scientific base and there is no research that allows to attend, treat and give an effective response to various visual health problems in the country. For this reason, this project also aims to promote the development of research and, through it, try to validate existing treatments in the field of optometry and low vision, as well as the development of new techniques to meet the various needs in this field.
