Although in Colombia intervention projects have been developed for the control of malaria that have contributed to the reduction of morbidity and mortality, it is necessary to implement actions to strengthen the practices of prevention and control of the disease in the communities, through training strategies for leaders that allow them to make decisions for malaria control.

The foregoing is based on Education for Health (EpS) which must transcend the health sector reaching other sectors and institutions, which includes knowledge of health, social, economic and environmental risk factors, the development of personal skills and self-esteem, that favor changes in voluntary and responsible behavior that lead to the improvement of individual and collective health (PAHO). In this sense, a popular literacy initiative was carried out aimed at women community leaders through which a dialogue of knowledge can be established between what the communities know and do to control the disease, with the initiatives emanating from the different investigations in health for the prevention of malaria.
