Ethiopia, like other developing countries, suffers from a significant problem in the level of scientific education in the teaching-learning of the laboratory in primary schools. In the Wolaita area, in southern Ethiopia, major problems have been detected in the education of chemistry, physics and biology in laboratory work in schools. In most of them, science classes are taught without laboratory practices.

Given the importance of practical science teaching in the early stages of learning, which implies having adequate spaces and material and trained personnel, the general idea of the project consisted of working in a primary school, equipping it with the appropriate infrastructure and providing the training corresponding to the teachers. In addition, it is proposed that the school serve as a pilot center for the rest of the schools in the area given the lack of laboratory infrastructure in all of them. With all this, it is intended to create awareness of the importance of practical teaching of experimental sciences.

The project had a material part, with the conditioning of the space that is going to be used as a laboratory, the purchase of furniture and the purchase of instrumentation and chemical products; and a pedagogical part, through the study of the real situation of science teaching at school, the organization of laboratory material, the preparation of manuals for teacher training (safety, product handling and preparation of solutions), seminars for teachers, choice of experiments to carry out, preparation of practical manuals and dissemination of the results to other schools in the area.
