GOALS
- Design and implement the PukllayHuasi toy library in the peasant community of Mollebamba, Antabamba, Apurímac, Peru.
- Train the staff who will run the toy library on the management and care of children in that educational space.
- Raise awareness among parents, teachers and community authorities of the Juan Espinoza Medrano district about the need to create recreational-cultural institutions designed to develop the personality of boys and girls through play.
- Evaluate the impact of the toy library, as well as the feasibility of replicating the PukllayHuasi model, in the future, of a network of toy libraries for the district and province of Antabamba.
ACTIVITIES
- Promote the commitment of families, through parent schools, to safeguard the physical and emotional integrity of students by involving institutions and the media.
- Carry out the improvement or maintenance of the educational infrastructure in general as well as the equipment and development of ICTs in educational institutions.
- Improve health conditions in the population, with emphasis on early childhood development
- Improvement of infrastructure, equipment and management of health services at the district level.
- "The PukllayHuasi project. Playful space for the comprehensive development of childhood in the Peruvian Andes" seeks to directly serve a population of 30 to 40 children between 0 and 4 years old in the community of Mollebamba. This number can grow with the children who eventually reach the population of Mollebamba, since in the JEM district, according to the 2017 census, there are more than 160 children in that age range. All of these children are mostly children of peasants.
RESULTS
Thanks to PukllayWasi (home of play in Quechua), we sought to guarantee the right to play for children from 0 to 5 years of age in the Peasant Community of Mollebamba (Juan Espinoza Medrano, Antabamba, Apurímac, Peru) through the creation of a toy library of public access and contribute to the comprehensive development of the economically disadvantaged population. This project was developed in three phases (Design, Implementation and Monitoring and evaluation).
The PukllayWasi toy library was inaugurated on August 24, 2022 and was attended by the Regional Director of Education of Apurímac who highlighted that it is the first public toy library in the Apurímac Region, therefore, it is expected that this model can be replicated in others towns of the Peruvian Andes. The local population, like that of other nearby towns, positively values the model, and it has even been influenced by local government plans for future developments. Since it is not a daycare or a school, Pukllay Wasi is able to enhance the role of parents in the development of their children through play.
