Educating before the DANA and the climate crisis

alt=

COURSE RECOGNISED BY THE CEFIRE OF GANDIA

This course comes from the premise that phenomena such as the DANA are just another example of the new climate context in which the Mediterranean basin seems to be in, with prolonged periods of heatwaves and droughts and more intense rainfall. A context to which we must adapt and rather than hiding it from the classroom, it must be integrated in every teaching level. This proposal is born from a detailed analysis and critic of the DANA and
climate change first, as a natural phenomena, and second, as proof of the poor territorial planning and risk prevention and management of the Valencian Country. The second part of the course attempts to shine a light on how to address this climate change and environmental crisis scenario in the classrooms, not as a proposal specifically designed for science subjects, but rather as a cross-disciplinary attempt for everyone, including here centre activities, service-learning projects and ideas to incorporate the eco-social transition in the classroom. On this matter, the speakers
of the course are secondary education teachers currently working on these issues, as well as university teachers and technicians specialised in matters related to the climate, territorial planning and natural risks.
