El próximo jueves 05/12/2019 a las 15:00h en la Sala Reuniones SS6 (Edificio de Cabecera, Semisótano), Arturo Martínez (Ecología de vertebrados terrestres) nos hablará sobre el tema: "Movement ecology and conservation of raptors by means of high-resolution GPS/GSM telemetry".

He says:

Spatial analysis is, currently, a growing issue in Ecology due to the necessity to assess the spatial dimension of anthropic influence, as well as the appearance of cutting‐edge tracking technology. For endangered species is important to identify habitat use in order to implement management plans. On the other hand, because of their mobility, bird’s spatial ecology is difficult to assess. However, new tracking devices allow us to get such information thanks to their high resolution, accuracy and frequency. Consequently, Movement Ecology, is a discipline born to answer questions about movement of the individuals, assessing the extrinsic and intrinsic factors involved in such movements. On the other hand, the Bonelli’s eagle, is a medium‐large threatened raptor whose population have been shrinking due to habitat degradation, declining prey availability and unnatural elevated adult mortality. This species range overlaps many urban areas across de Mediterranean, therefore is under high human pressure, from situations of relative potential danger such as human disturbance or leisure activities, to the most dangerous ones, like electrical pylons. For this reason, understanding of behaviour in this species by means of high‐frequency telemetry is crucial for their effective conservation.
