Guidelines for visitors

The ICBiBE frequently receives visits of predoctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and senior researchers. Visiting periods can vary from a few days to long-term stays.Visits to our facilities are regulated by the University of Valencia. There is special concern regarding the safety of visitors and facilities, and access to some services may be restricted to staff only.

The ICBiBE is a particularly attractive centre for international students wishing to undertake a research stay, but it does not directly fund the stays of external students and researchers. However, ICBiBE can support requests for scholarships or grants for stays at our institute if arranged with sufficient advance notice.

For all those interested in undertaking a stay at our institute, please carefully consider the following aspects:

  1. Identify exactly which Research Unit you wish to visit. Consider carefully if your proposal matches the line of research of the Unit. Proposals that are too general or vague may be rejected outright.Contact the coordinator of the Unit (see the web site), discuss your details, and plan the project you wish to undertake, the timing, and the characteristics of the stay. If the coordinator cannot act as a mentor for the stay, you may be redirected to another researcher in the unit. Final acceptance of the visit will depend on the characteristics of the proposal in accordance with the preferences of the laboratory's line of research.
  2. Once the objective, period, and characteristics of the stay have been defined, the candidate may initiate procedures or applications for funding. If the collaboration of the ICBiBE is necessary, his/her mentor will contact the direction of the centre to initiate the appropriate procedures.
  3. The UV-International Service website includes information on possible access routes to the University of Valencia.
  4. Anyone wishing to develop a stay in our centre should be aware that our university requires insurance to be authorized to move freely within its facilities. The conditions of this insurance are set by the University of Valencia for all its centres, and the ICBiBE cannot negotiate these conditions. Neither the University of Valencia nor the ICBiBE provide such insurance coverage. Possession of insurance is an essential requirement and must be demonstrated prior to the start of the stay. Visitorsare responsible for presenting this documentation. If the institution of origin is providing an insurance, the supporting documentation must also be presented. It is important to note that some programs, such as Erasmus+, may not provide adequate insurance coverage; in this case, the visitor must provide such insurance at his/her own expense. The conditions required by the University of Valencia can be found at the following link (pay special attention to Order 5/2016 as indicated in that link.)
  5. The final approval of the stay must be obtained by your mentor from the director of the ICBiBE. Ensure that your stay meets the requirements indicated above before beginning it. Do not begin your stay without proper authorization. Again, keep in touch with your mentor who will guide you on the adequate approach.
  6. If it is a simple visit of one or a few days, you may consider to be a simple “one-day visitor”. In that case you will not be asked to have an insurance. However, you will have to be authorized each day upon arrival at the centre. Your movements within the facilities will be limited. You will not receive a certification as a research visitor.
  7. Access to the entomological collection is regulated independently. Those interested in accessing the entomological collection should contact the Natural History Museum management directly.
