The Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology is a university research centre whose activities span scales ranging from the subcellular and molecular levels to organisms, populations, ecosystems and processes associated with global change. Its 16 research units address a broad range of questions related to biodiversity and evolution, including the study of the structure, function and diversity of living organisms, their systematics and evolution, interactions between organisms and their environment, ecological processes, and mechanisms of response to environmental change. This diversity of approaches supports both fundamental and applied research, encompassing studies on biodiversity and conservation, ecosystem functioning, environmental quality, and the use of organisms as indicators of environmental change.
