On November 26th, the Plenary of the Consell Valencià de Cultura (CVC) approved the Declaration 'Towards a framework strategy for the protection of the territory. Lliria Declaration'. In this Declaration, the CVC advocates the immediate reflection, and subsequent implementation, of a Strategic Plan for the Protection of the Territory, for the whole territory of the Community.

The Consell Valencià de Cultura proposes that this Plan be configured as a framework for territorial intervention, with the character of heritage protection, which controls and mitigates the processes of soil degradation and, more specifically, substantially reduces -to the point of reversing- the dangerous process of desertification in the Valencian Community. A Plan capable of producing, in practice, qualitative transformations in abandoned agricultural areas and of implementing natural systems that enhance the sustainable stability of the territory and the essential environmental services it provides to the population.

This Declaration of the CVC “is important, among other issues, for the fact that an organism of Culture also includes environmental issues, including territory and soils, within its initiatives”, says José Luis Rubio Delgado, Valencian scientist, former Director of the Desertification Research Center (CIDE) and Jaume I Prize for Environmental Protection, from whose appearance on 16.10.2019 this document is part of.

The Consell Valencià de Cultura is a consultative and advisory institution of the Generalitat Valenciana in specific matters relating to Valencian culture, with the mission of ensuring the defense and promotion of the linguistic and cultural values of the Community.
