On the occasion of the first state visit of the Colombian President, Gustavo Petro, Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain offered a gala dinner to more than a hundred guests, including representatives of the business and scientific world. Representing the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), César Azorín, researcher at the Desertification Research Center (CIDE, CSIC-UV-GVA) and principal investigator of the project 'Spanish and Iberoamerican network on climate variability and climate services in terrestrial and marine ecosystems' (RED-CLIMA), and Camilo García Cely, Colombian researcher contracted Ramón y Cajal CSIC at the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC, CSIC-UV) were present.

The meeting was an excellent opportunity to reflect on key issues on the global agenda, such as the environmental crisis and the energy transition, and to highlight the connections and collaboration networks between both countries, Spain and Colombia.

Within this framework, RED-CLIMA is a good example of Ibero-American scientific collaboration. RED-CLIMA is funded within the CSIC LINCGLOBAL Program whose objective is to promote interaction between Ibero-American and Spanish researchers in the field of global change while advancing towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Organization (SDGs).

Specifically, RED-CLIMA aims to assess, attribute and predict climate change and its socioeconomic and environmental impacts, as well as to develop climate services in response to the SDGs. This Ibero-American consortium is formed by 4 countries and 6 institutions (universities, meteorological services, climate institutes, and risk monitoring centers) in Colombia, Brazil, Argentina and Chile.

Particularly relevant in the framework of this Spain-Colombia meeting is the participation in the RED-CLIMA of Dr. Paola Andrea Arias from the University of Antioquia (UdeA) in Colombia. The Head of the Environmental School of the UdeA was chosen by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as one of the authors of the UN report on climate change. Engineer Paola Andrea Arias Gómez is the first Colombian woman to obtain this appointment.

The coordination of RED-CLIMA from the CSIC is carried out in co-direction from the Desertification Research Center, with César Azorín Molina from the "Climate, Atmosphere and Ocean Lab" as principal investigator; and the Pyrenean Institute of Ecology, in which Sergio M. Vicente-Serrano, from the "Laboratory of Climatology and Climate Services" is the co-IP. Both centers are part of the CSIC's PTI+Clima, Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform for Climate and Climate Services. This platform's mission is to advance climate research and provide reference climate services to different sectors (water, biodiversity, agriculture, energy, etc.) in the framework of national collaborations (including agencies such as AEMET, OECC, or the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change, PNACC) and international (including IPCC, COPERNICUS, FAO), enhancing the participation and collaboration with companies and technological alliances.
