Description
The CIDE Soil Analysis Service (SAS-CIDE) is part of the CSIC Scientific and Technical Services Network.
The main objective of SAS-CIDE is to provide analytical support for soil samples (and in some cases, plant samples) to CIDE research lines, other CSIC centers, universities, as well as other research centers, private companies, and individuals who request it.
The main activities of this service are the analysis of soil samples to determine their physical, chemical, and hydrological properties and to obtain analytical results.
In addition, as part of its training activities, SAS-CIDE is actively involved in teaching through the supervision of CSIC Youth Employment Program contracts, interns (vocational training and universities), and visits by high schools to our facilities.
Services
SAS-CIDE offers the determination of:
- Total carbon (total C), total nitrogen (total N), and total sulfur (total S) content in solid samples of soil and plant material.
The analysis is performed using the Dumas method (complete combustion between 1100 °C and 1450 °C in the presence of oxygen). For this purpose, the service uses a LECO CNS928 elemental analyzer, which has independent detectors for each of the three elements to be measured (C, S, and N), thus avoiding matrix effects. The detectors are non-dispersive infrared (IR) absorption for carbon and sulfur and thermal conductivity (TCD) for nitrogen.
Sample requirements: Minimum quantity: 0.5 grams. The sample must be sent dry and pulverized. If a sample is not available in these conditions, a grinding service can be requested (check price and minimum quantity required).
The terms of service, cost, and delivery time depend on the type and number of analyses to be performed.
