The body in charge of the system of guarantees is the Quality Committee of the Doctoral Programme. This sets out the mechanisms and procedures of supervision of the development, results analysis and improvement proposals. To meet the opinion of the different collectives involved, the Quality Committee of the programme is formed by the members of the Academic Committee of the programme plus a doctorate students’ representative, a member of the Administration and Services Staff, and a technician of the Quality Unit, who exercises the functions of quality technical supporting.

The Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme (CAPD) oversees the quality of the training activities deriving from the committee itself and the ones offered through the acceptance of activities organised by institutions outside the committee, in both cases considering their relevance to the research requirements of the doctoral students and the acquisition of the competences and skills programmed. The committee itself will be in charge of assessing the specific training activities carried out.
In the activities programmed by the CAPD, such as the seminar of methodological specialisation in research and the seminar of doctors’ experiences by the programme, the committee itself will establish and will be in charge of the measures for organising the activity, the dissemination, the attendance control and the issuing of certificates as far as they attend at least to an 80% of the sessions and submit a report of the activity.

In the event of national and international seminars and lectures related to the research groups and projects and institutional chairs of the departments of the programme, the CAPD has to approve their incorporation as training activities of the doctoral programme, after submitting the complete programme of that seminar or lecture, specifying the topic, the date, the hours, the speakers and the titles of the lectures. The committee will establish and will be responsible of the measures for the dissemination, the attendance control and the issuing of the certificates for the programme’s students that attend at least to an 80% of the sessions and submit a report of the activity.

In the event of national and international seminars and lectures held outside of the departments that are part of the doctoral programme, the CAPD has to approve their incorporation as training activities of the doctoral programme, after submitting the complete programme of that seminar or lecture, specifying the topic, the date, the hours, the speakers and the titles of the lectures. The committee will demand the relevant certificate of attendance and/or participation through a communication, poster..., and in its absence it will demand a short report on the activity.
As far as the research stays in bodies, entities and institutions regulated by convention are concerned, the CAPD will require for their approval to the applicants a justifying report of the stay, which must be approved by the supervisor and director of the thesis, as well as an acceptance letter of the receiving centre. At the end of the stay the doctoral student will submit to the committee for its approval a report on the activity performed, approved by the supervisor and the director of the thesis, as well as a letter by the centre in which the length of the stay and the type of activities developed are specified.

Finally, in the work placements in bodies, entities and institutions regulated by conventions the procedure is as follows. The doctoral student submits the application for work placements with a report of the receiving centre detailing the dates, who is the supervisor in the centre of the work placement and the training programme to be developed. The CAPD has to authorise the proposal and the work placement agreement is formalised through ADEIT University-Business Foundation. Finally the CAPD will assess the result through the report submitted by the applicant and the letter by the supervisor in the centre where the work placement has been performed.

The University of Valencia has an educational cooperation agreement model for “work placements” subscribed with the companies and institutions and is a specific agreement for each one of the students that will undertake work placements (available in www.adeit.uv.es/pdf ). All the collaborating companies and entities acquire the following commitments that will be detailed in the appropriate specific agreements for each one of the students undertaking their work placements: They make available to the students a professional worker who acts as supervisor, directing and guiding the activities of the students during their stay and collaborating with the university supervisor in the learning process of the student; the activities programme that will be undertaken by the students, and that will be adapted to the goals established and the skills to be acquired by the students, is established in joint agreement; and the companies and entities will have the material means and enough services to undertake their work placements. The companies and entities are within the geographical area of the University of Valencia, mainly in Valencia capital city and its surroundings, and they are also set in other towns of the province, the rest of the Spanish state. Agreements with companies and entities located in other countries are also signed.

The University of Valencia, through its centres and the Quality Unit, has designed a general Internal Quality Guarantee System (SGIC) for its centres and degrees. The correct surveillance of the processes and the appropriate storage of evidences must be ensured through a computer system, that can also facilitate the work of the people in charge.
