
Pas 1. Comprova els requisits previs
Abans d'iniciar la sol·licitud, verifica a RAPID que:
✓ Les activitats transversals i específiques obligatòries estan reconegudes i incorporades al Document d'Activitats.
✓ Has completat el nombre mínim d'hores exigides pel Programa de Doctorat.
✓ L’avaluació anual del Pla d'Investigació i el Document d’Activitats ha estat apte.
Pas 2. Sol·licita l'autorització
Presenta la sol·licitud electrònica abans de la data límit de permanència en el programa.
Cal adjuntar:
- Informe favorable de la direcció de la tesi.
- Informe favorable de la tutoria.
- Tesi doctoral en format PDF.
- Proposta de tribunal.
- Currículum i resta de documentació requerida.
Pas 3. Avaluació externa
Si la documentació és correcta, la CAPD remetrà la tesi a persones expertes externes per a la seua avaluació.
Termini d'avaluació: fins a 1 mes.
Si els informes inclouen observacions o propostes de millora, la CAPD podrà concedir un termini de fins a 1 mes perquè el doctorand o la doctoranda presente una resposta i, si escau, incorpore les modificacions oportunes.
Pas 4. Resolució de la CAPD
Una vegada rebuts els informes externs, la CAPD resoldrà sobre l'autorització del dipòsit definitiu.
S'autoritza el dipòsit quan:
- Hi ha almenys 5 informes favorables a la defensa.
Es denega el dipòsit quan:
- Hi ha 2 o més informes no favorables.
Resultat
Autorització del dipòsit definitiu → la tesi pot continuar el procediment cap a la defensa.
Denegació del dipòsit → la tesi no pot continuar el procediment de defensa.
This document contains a checklist to verify the requirements that must be met for the submission of a doctoral thesis in accordance with the Thesis Submission Regulations. It is a working tool that should be considered by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme (CAPD) before the thesis is submitted
Once the final submission has been authorized, the doctoral thesis will be made available for public review for six working days, starting from the day following its publication on the Doctoral School’s website.
During this period, any person holding a doctoral degree may submit any observations or comments they consider appropriate regarding the content of the thesis.
Step 6. Authorization of the Defense
Once the public review period has ended, the Doctoral School has a maximum of 10 days to decide whether to authorize the defense of the thesis.
The decision is based on the documentation submitted and the reports issued during the procedure.
In exceptional cases, the Doctoral School may request additional reports from external experts. In such cases, the decision period may be extended to up to one month.
Step 7. Appointment of the Examination Committee
In the same resolution authorizing the defense, the Doctoral School approves the appointment of the examination committee.
Composition
The committee shall consist of:
- 3 full members: Chair, Secretary, and Committee Member.
- 3 alternate members.
Requirements
Members of the committee must:
- Hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent).
- Have accredited research experience, demonstrated through a currently valid research assessment period (sexenio) or equivalent merits.
Independence and Impartiality
- The majority of the committee members must be external to both the University of Valencia and the Doctoral Programme.
- The thesis supervisor(s) and tutor(s) may not be members of the committee.
- The composition of the committee must comply with the principle of gender equality.
Acceptance
Once notified of their appointment, the designated members will have 3 days to submit their resignation.
If no resignation is received within that period, the appointment shall be deemed accepted.
Step 8. Defense Scheduling
Once the examination committee has been constituted, the thesis defense must be held within a maximum period of three months.
The Chair of the committee shall convene the defense session, and the Secretary shall notify the date, time, and venue of the defense at least 7 calendar days in advance.
Step 9. Thesis Assessment
Once the defense has been completed, the examination committee shall deliberate and issue the doctoral thesis assessment report.
The overall grade may be:
- Fail
- Pass
- Good
- Excellent
In determining the final grade, the committee shall take into consideration:
- The scientific quality of the doctoral thesis.
- The public defense and discussion of the work.
- The doctoral candidate’s research curriculum.
- The Activities Document.
- The reports submitted by the external experts.
Cum Laude Distinction
Theses awarded the grade of Excellent may be granted the Cum Laude distinction.
To award this distinction:
- All members of the committee must vote in favor.
- The vote must be conducted by secret ballot.
The votes shall be placed in sealed envelopes and subsequently reviewed by the Doctoral School to verify unanimity.
Nomination for the Extraordinary Doctoral Award
As part of the same secret voting procedure, committee members may nominate the thesis for the Extraordinary Doctoral Award.
This nomination shall be included in the academic record together with:
- The assessment report.
- The defense reports.
- The Cum Laude vote.
- The nomination for the Extraordinary Doctoral Award, where applicable.
