Publication requirements
Minimum number
- The thesis must include at least three original research articles.
Timeframe
- The articles must have been written and published (or accepted for publication) during the PhD programme.
Quality
- The papers must be published or accepted in journals indexed in international databases such as JCR (Web of Science) or SJR (Scopus).
- If the journal is not indexed in these databases, the CAPD will establish the minimum impact criteria required.
Authorship
- As a general rule, the PhD candidate must be the first author of all articles.
- Exceptions are made in cases where the scientific field follows a different order of authorship established by convention.
Structure of the thesis
The thesis must include the following sections:
Summary section
- Minimum length of 5,000 words.
- It must include:
- An overall summary of the work.
- Justification of the thematic coherence of the articles.
- Theoretical framework.
- Methodology.
- Objectives and main results.
Included articles
- Full text of each article.
- Full publication details.
- Affiliations of all co-authors.
- In the case of an article that has been accepted but not yet published, the letter of acceptance must be provided.
Discussion and Conclusions
- Overall analysis of the results.
- General conclusions of the research.
Documentation for the deposit
When applying for deposit, the following must be provided:
- A report from the thesis supervisor on the category or impact of the journals.
- A detailed report from the supervisor on the PhD candidate’s contribution to each article (in the case of co-authorship).
- A statement from the supervisor guaranteeing that the articles:
- Have not been used in other doctoral theses.
- Will not be used in any other thesis.
- Any other specific requirements set by the Doctoral School or the relevant CAPD.
