José María Peiró, doctor 'honoris causa' by the University of Coimbra

José María Peiró Silla, professor emeritus in the University of Valencia, will be named doctor 'honoris causa' by the University of Coimbra (Portugal) this Wednesday (April 12th). The ceremony will begin at 10:30 am in the Sala Grande dos Atos (Sala dos Capelos). In addition to Peiró, Professor Joaquim Armando Gomes Ferreira, and Professors Leonor Maria Gonçalves Pacheco and Teresa Manuela Marques dos Santos will also be there.

Peiró is an honorary member of the Valencian Society of Psychology and has been director of the Institute for Research in Psychology of Human Resources, Organizational Development and Quality of Working Life at the University of Valencia (IDOCAL) and president of the International Association of Applied Psychology.

In his research, Professor Peiró has addressed numerous topics and analyzed in depth the challenges of our world, such as work in an increasingly digitalized context (accelerated by the pandemic), the welfare of workers in these new environments or sustainability. On an international scale, he has carried out work of great relevance, highlighting the presidency of the EAWOP (European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology, 1995-97) and the IAAP (International Association of Applied Psychology, 2011-2014). Throughout his career, José María Peiró has contributed to teaching innovation, promoting inter-university doctoral programs and directing the International Consortium for the Erasmus Mundus master’s in Work, Organizational and HR Psychology.

Professor Peiró is also a numerary member of the Spanish Academy of Psychology and has been awarded Honorary Doctorates by the Methodist University of Sao Paulo (2010), the Miguel Hernández University (2017), the University of Maastricht (2020), the University of Coimbra (2020) and the Federico Villareal National University (2021). In addition, he has received national and international recognitions such as the Aristotle Award of the European Federation of Psychology Associations (Milan, 2015), the Distinguished Teaching Award of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (2022), the Machiko Fokuhara Award Excellence in International Research and Service from the International Council of Psychology (2013), the EAWOP Life Time Achievement Award (2013), the Certificate of Honor from the IAPP (2018) the "José Luis Pinillos" Award for Psychologist of the Year from Psicofundación (2016) and the Research Award from the Economic and Social Council of Spain (2017). He is Honorary Fellowship of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology of USA (2009) and of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology (2001).
