Family firm personality: scale and dimensions
Abstract Summary (8 lines): The concept of “Family Firm Personality” helps explain what makes family firms unique and why their organizational behavior differs. Based on a sustainability framework grounded in the AMIGO model, the Family Firm Personality Scale (FFPS) was developed and validated using data from 1,833 CEOs. The 31-item scale demonstrated strong reliability, validity, and psychometric properties across five dimensions: emotional stability, cautiousness, identification, ownership and control, and non-family empowerment. By capturing stable behavioral patterns, the scale helps explain why family firms respond differently to similar organizational challenges. The FFPS provides a new tool for understanding family firm heterogeneity and distinctive organizational characteristics.
