
The Universitat de València has published the resolution of the 23rd edition of the UVEC Young Creative Writing Awards, which have recognised six works within the categories of poetry, fiction, theatre and short film scripts. This edition has received 95 originals from students of public Valencian universities. The contest consolidates itself as one of the main support initiatives in creation among university students, offering public recognition and opportunities to new voices.
Within the various categories, the judges, formed by professionals of the literary and academic fields, declared the following works as winners:
- Poetry in Valencian: Els bacs i els mites, d’Omar A. Aibout Llàcer, student of the Degree in Catalan studies at the Universitat de València.
- Poetry in Spanish: En distancias a aquel globo, de David Patón Pérez, student of the Double Degree in Physics and Mathematics at the Universitat de València.
- Fiction in Valencian: Vaig baixar, donant-te el braç almenys un milió d’esglaons, de Sergi Ponsoda Juan, student of the Degree in Catalan studies at the Universitat de València.
- Fiction in Spanish: Nilo, de María Luisa Armiñana Sanmiguel, student of the Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures at the Universitat de València.
- Theatre: Tiovivo, de Patricia Oreto Garrigues Martínez, student of the Master's Degree in Secondary Education at the Universitat de València
- Short film script: Suspiros del ocaso precoz, de Anxo Vidal Noguera, student of the Doctoral Programme on Historical and Social Studies on Science, Medicine and Scientific Communication at the Universitat de València.
Therefore, the resolution gathers as finalists Feina de la llar, de Gerard García Ferrer, in the poetry in Valencian category, and Donde no llega el metro, de Pilar Vidal Noguerón, in the short film script category.
All the winners of the UVEC Awards receive a prize of 1,000 euros. Furthermore, the winners in fiction and poetry will be published by Edicions 96, while the theatre play will be edited by the Servei de Publicacions de la Universitat de València. Regarding the short film script, if the project is produced before December 2027, it could obtain an additional help of 2,000 euros for its production.
The award ceremony for the winning students will be held at an institutional ceremony, whose details will be shared shortly.
The judges of the 23rd edition of the UVEC Awards are formed by: J. Àngel Cano Mateu, Héctor Gómez Santa Olalla y Pilar Verdú del Campo, in poetry; Isabel Gonzálvez Meseguer, José Martínez Rubio y Antoni Sabater Pérez, in fiction; Mertxe Aguilar Cánovas, Jèsica Fortuny Marzo y Ramón Roselló Ivars, in theatre; and Yolanda Cabrera García-Ochoa, Alberto Evangelio Ramos i Mila Luengo Pavlotzky, in short film script.
The UVEC Creative Writing Awards are promoted by the Office of the Vice-Rector for the Student Body, Educational Transformation and, Lifelong Learning, and organised by the Information and Promotion Service for Students (Sedi) of the Universitat de València, in collaboration with the Aules de Narrativa, Poesía, Artes Escénicas and Cinema of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture, Sports and Social Engagement
