Tirant

During the last 3 weeks the service has carried out the extension of the node of the Spanish Supercomputing Network (Xarxa Espanyola de Supercomputació), TIRANT, under agreement of the UV with the BSC-CNS (Coordinator of ESN (Economy of Solidarity Network)).

For the expansion, around 14 tons of computing material have been moved from Barcelona to our DC (Data Center) in Burjassot. With this material the installation of TIRANT has been improved, replacing some elements and adding new ones, which is now comprised of 512 blades JS21 with two processors PowerPC 970MP dual core at 2.2 GHz and 4 GB of RAM, connected via a Myrinet network. This configuration provides TIRANT with 2048 cores (512 previously), of which 2016 are exclusively dedicated to the execution of works.

The storage, based on GPFS, has also been expanded. In particular we have gone from 11.2 TB (in 4 trays of disks) to 44.9 TB (divided into 8 trays of disks), remaining configured the previous space for backup copies.

All of this has been possible thanks to the collaboration between the BSC-CNS and the Information Service of the University of Valencia.
