On Friday 7 February, the Chair for Agri-food Cooperatives of Spain and the Universitat de València (UV) held a conference at the Viticulture and Oenology School Félix Jiménez de Requena.

This conference includes seminars full of information and curiosities on the cooperative movement in the agri-food sector. This conference is for the young people interested. It’s main purpose is to show students the day-to-day life of the cooperatives.

In addition, this conference is very interesting, not only for its contents relevance and the experience of the lecturers, but also due to its informational and accessible content.

The conference started with a presentation by the Professor of Financial Law (UV) and Head of the Chair, Pilar  Alguacil Marí. After this thirty minute long introduction, the same speaker started her lecture (one more hour), by the title of “¿Qué es una cooperativa alimentaria?” (What is an agri-food cooperative?).

Then, the Associate Professor of Applied Economics at the UV, Antonia Sajardo, proceeded with her lecture (also of one hour of duration) which had the title “Importancia de las cooperativas agroalimentarias en España” (The importance of agri-food cooperatives in Spain).

After the lectures, the conference had a panel discussion moderated by two important cooperatives: Coviñas (presented by its President, Jorge Srougi) and Casas de Efuemia (also presented by its President, Julián Valero).

The full conference was moderated by Teresa Puchol, doctor by the Universitat de València and awarded by the Chair for Agri-food Cooperatives UV.
