The UNESCO-UV Chair on Global Education in the Mediterrean participates in the sessions programme ‘Educating ethically and philosophically in contexts of conflict’

The programme will have 3 training and awareness sessions that will take place on 28 April, 5 and 12 May in the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences. This project’s aim is to emphasise on the importance of education for the construction of a culture of peace and a supportive citizenship.

The newly established UNESCO-UV Chair on Global Education in the Mediterrean. Studies for Peace, Interculturality and Sustainability’ will participate and collaborate in the organisation of the sessions ‘Educating ethically and philosophically in contexts of conflict, injury and vulnerability. Proposals from the university for a solidary citizenship’.

It is a 3 session programme with the participation of integral members of Save the Children, the Iberoamérica Europa Foundation and the Juntos por la vida Foundation, among others. They will inform the students and teaching staff of the UV about their career, projects and the possibility of participating in them as volunteers.  The workshops will also outline the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 agenda and the importance of ethical citizenship education for the development of all people in contexts of conflict, injury and vulnerability.

The culture of peace must be built from education, values and the development of critical thinking in pursuit of social justice. That is why this programme was aimed to educate for conflict, i. e. to educate citizens in an environment of respect and dignity in order to foster their solidary conscience, to generate a social change and to build responsible relationships.

The activity will consist of several training and awareness sessions. Students and teaching staff of the degree in Philosophy and Pedagogy, Master’s degree in Ethics and Democracy and Master’s degree in Secondary Education Teaching will participate in the activities. To the sessions are invited specialists in human development for social inclusion and active citizenship, who have made an outstanding contribution through applied projects in contexts of conflict, injury and vulnerability.  The sessions have an eminent practical, dynamic and proactive character, including workshops and participatory sessions with the students.
