Master’s Degree professional opportunities

The official Master’s Degree in Audiovisual Contents and Formats trains its students for the new audiovisual profiles arisen as a consequence of the digitisation of the audiovisual industry. This posts describes one of the most relevant professional profiles in the new audiovisual paradigm, the transmedia professional.

The audiovisual industry has had a great economic, social and cultural relevance in the last few years; this means a high volume of investments, highly-sophisticated technological infrastructures and a high and varied production whose consumption is one of the highest in the market. Hence, it is a sector needing a great quantity of specialised professionals. As recalled by Arnau Gifreu Castells -professor, researcher and producer- in his visit to the master’s degree last 24 November, “in a highly swamped audiovisual market, the key is diversification”.

In the current digital environment, as Marta Pelardo Lamo de Espinosa- Doctor in Information Sciences by the Complutense University of Madrid- pointed out, companies “constantly require new formulas to cover the demands of a consumer/user who is more and more exigent and who is overexposed to all kinds of information”. This leads us to seek for new professional profiles within the field of Audiovisual Communication.

In this sense, The official Master’s Degree in Audiovisual Contents and Formats of the Universitat de València lies in training according to the audiovisual profiles arisen since the digitalisation of audiovisual industries, specially training for profiles oriented to the world of audiovisual production.

Among the professional profiles to cover after taking this master’s degree, we could highlight the following:

Transmedia Professional

In a former post entitled Audiovisual and Multimedia: a necessary synergy we talked about how media convergence had lead way to a new type of narrative, the transmedia, in which the narrative universe expands through different media (videos, books, web sites, social networks, etc.), exploring all their possibilities.  Transmedia is conceived from its origin, making use of their possibilities in the exhibition windows.  The user needs to consume all the products in order to live the full experience, which allows  generating an   engagement   or affinity towards the product.

Nowadays, transmedia is one of the new tendencies in innovative processes of communication.  The transmedia narrator has to be a professional able to create a narration in different platforms which contribute to create a narrative universe for the user in a unique way.

In the subject Análisis de Formatos Mediáticos (Analysis of Media Formats) taught by professor Germán Llorca in the Official Master’s Degree in Audiovisual Contents and Formats, the students are brought into contact with the new possibilities held by interactive and transmedia contents.
