Dr. Javier Cuitavi (Trinity College Dublin) delivers a lecture on neuroinflammation and metabolism on May 11th at the Burjassot Campus.
On Monday, May 11, 2026, at 12:00 PM, at the Aulario Interfacultativo of the Burjassot Campus, AI-10, the lecture "Immune system and brain in dialogue: inflammation, metabolism, and delirium" will be held by Dr. Javier Cuitavi, Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin.
Javier Cuitavi, a neuroscientist and biotechnologist, began his research career with laboratory internships, notably his stay with Dr. Consuelo Guerri at the Príncipe Felipe Research Center, where he studied neuroinflammatory and glial mechanisms associated with alcohol exposure. During his PhD at the University of Valencia, under the supervision of Dr. Lucía Hipólito, Dr. Ana Polache, and Dr. Carmen Agustín-Pavón, he investigated how inflammatory pain modulates reinforcement and relapse in alcohol use disorders, with a focus on the interaction between the immune and opioid systems. During this period, he completed two international stays with Dr. Meritxell Canals at the University of Nottingham, applying advanced neuropharmacology techniques to analyze changes in opioid receptor signaling in inflammatory contexts. After obtaining his PhD in 2023, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Dr. Hipólito, focusing on drug delivery strategies for the treatment of drug use disorders. During this stage, he completed a research stay at Dr. Colm Cunningham's laboratory at Trinity College Dublin, where he began exploring the role of peripheral inflammation in glial changes. Since July 2024, he has been part of this laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing his work on the relationship between peripheral inflammation and neurodegenerative pathologies, with a special emphasis on glial changes and neurometabolic alterations.
