The Doctoral Studies in Statistics and Optimisation began being taught under the Royal Decree 778/1998 and obtained a quality award from the Spanish Ministry of Education. The doctoral programme has continued under the Royal Decree 1393/2007 and has obtained the “Quality Label towards Excellence” from the 2011-2012 to the 2013-2014 academic year. The current studies are the transformation of the aforementioned programme to the current legislative framework. The Doctoral programme in Statistics and Optimisation was created mainly because of the need to incorporate social professionals with extensive training and research capacity to develop new methods and adapt the existing ones to novel environments in companies, research centres and government agencies. The growing demand in the use of increasingly sophisticated methods, particularly in areas such as science, economics, industry and administration, requires that universities train experienced doctors able to interact in multidisciplinary fields.
