David Conesa has a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Valencia, where he has been working since October 1993. He conducts research in the area of statistical modeling of situations in which uncertainty is present, and does so mainly from a Bayesian perspective. Thus, for example, he has worked on problems of queues, hierarchical models, efficiency analysis, animal survival models, and lately in species distribution models. He is co-author of 100 publications, the majority indexed in journals of international impact, and more than 275 communications in national and international conferences. He has co-directed 10 theses and is currently co-directing four more. He has carried out research and teaching stays at Duke University (USA), Lancaster University (UK), Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (USA), Université de Bordeaux (France), Università de Bergamo (Italy), Universidade do Minho (Portugal), Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy) and several Spanish universities. He was the President of the Spanish Region of the International Biometric Society during the years 2014 and 2015, and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Statistics and Operations Research Transactions (SORT). He has taught Mathematics, Biostatistics, Design of Experiments, Spatio-Temporal Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Statistical Modeling, Probability and Simulation, Bayesian Statistics, Computing and Programming in R, Generalized Linear Models, and Smoothing, Additive and Mixed Models. |

Biography | ||
|
I am a tenured professor at the University of Valencia. My previous professional career was mainly devoted to research in Public Health at different national institutions. My scientific work lies at the intersection of the development of statistical methods and their application to relevant problems in Public Health. In particular, my research focuses on the development of methods for spatial statistics and Bayesian statistics. Throughout my career, I have sought to integrate methodological rigor with the practical usefulness of results. My work combines research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. |

Biography | ||

My research focuses on different aspects of modeling under uncertainty, which has been a recurring theme throughout my research career. I have primarily worked on modeling problems in the life sciences, including epidemiology, medicine, and biology. These problems have been addressed using statistical modeling approaches, often incorporating new methodological results. My work has been published mainly in journals classified within Statistics and Probability, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science. During the last ten years, my contributions have concentrated mainly on two areas: (a) modeling of omics data and (b) modeling of infectious diseases. |

Biography | ||
|
After graduating in Mathematics from the University of Valencia in 2006 and completing a Master’s in Computational Mathematics at the Universitat Jaume I, in 2007 she was hired by IMDEA Mathematics as a researcher in Computational Geometry. In 2008 she began her PhD at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, where she worked on geometric constraint problems under the supervision of Dr. Robert Joan-Arinyo. During her thesis, she completed a research stay at the Université de Bourgogne. In 2013 she applied her knowledge to bioinformatics and joined the Computational Genomics Department at the Prince Felipe Research Center (CIPF) as a postdoctoral researcher, under the direction of Dr. Joaquín Dopazo. She specialized in signaling and metabolic networks, developing methods for the functional analysis of transcriptomic data. She led the Hipathia project, resulting in numerous high-impact publications. Between 2018 and 2024, she worked in the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Unit and the Computational Biomedicine Laboratory at CIPF, led by Dr. Francisco García, focusing on strategies to characterize sex differences in biomedical contexts. Since January 2024, she has been an Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Valencia. |

Biography | ||
|
Antonio Manuel López Quílez graduated with a bachelor's degree and doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Valencia in 1989 and 1997, respectively. He is currently Full Professor in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of Valencia, where he teaches courses related to Spatial Statistics and Geographic Data Analysis in the Official Master's Degree in Biostatistics and the Bachelor's Degree in Data Science. His research activity is characterized by a combination of methodological developments and practical applications in the context of Bayesian statistics for spatial and spatiotemporal models. In this research work, he has collaborated in a wide range of scientific fields: epidemiology, agriculture, environment, geography, veterinary medicine, forestry, oceanography, and psychology. These collaborations have resulted in publications in different areas, multidisciplinary projects, contracts with companies and official bodies, specialized training courses, and consulting work. He has published more than 250 articles, half of them in indexed journals, most of which have a high impact factor. The results of his research have also been presented in more than 380 communications at scientific conferences, most of them international. The dissemination of the results has always been twofold, presenting methodological advances at statistical meetings and applications at meetings in other scientific areas. He has also supervised 18 doctoral theses. He has participated in more than 100 research transfer projects and contracts, in more than 30 as principal investigator. His career highlights include numerous collaborations with companies and public institutions, resulting in agreements and technology transfer contracts, developing Geographic Information Systems, database query and exploitation applications, and decision-making support tools. |
