Mister Vicent Andrés Martínez is a psychologist and director of the centre Proyecto Hombre in Valencia.
During his intervention, he informed us of the characteristics of the organisation Fundación Arzobispo Miguel Roca, commonly known as Proyecto Hombre. This organisation is part of the so-called third sector, which is used to designate non-profit organisations dedicated to social transformation, the wellbeing of the less privileged with no monetary benefit. It stems from social interest in helping and reliving the other – it nourishes from voluntary work.
Therefore, Proyecto Hombre is one of the many Valencian organisations of the third sector that are dedicated to fight against addiction. They should be characterized by cooperation and not by competition.
The inclusion of the area of drug addiction in the field of health has made it possible to develop specific social services such as the Units for Addictive Behaviours, many of which are managed by third-sector organisations. Proyecto Hombre has day centre and therapeutic communities. It has 27 centres on the national level, with more than 16000 patients and more than 65000 people in prevention.
They periodically offer the possibility to carry out curricular and extra-curricular placements with students of different undergraduate and postgraduate degree.
