Biography
 

Doctor in Economics and tenured university professor of the department of  Applied Economics (Political Economy Teaching Unit). He currently directs the POLAR (Policies, Actors, and Globalization) Research Group at the University of Valencia.

His areas of scientific interest are: international economic policy; economic policy evaluation; creativity in economics teaching; and art and economics.

He has participated in several competitive research projects supported by national (Ministry) and international institutions (European Union and United Nations). He has over 100 publications among articles, book and book chapters. Also, he has carried out research stays in several universities and European research centres, such as the Centre for the Study of Industrialisation Modes (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris) or the Nucleus of Research for Political Science and International Relations of Portugal, among others.

Besides, he is a screenwriter and director of the documentaries Brass Sounds (2003), La Fábrica (The Factory, 2005) and The Banquet of (Cultural) Commons (2020).

Biography
 

Maja Barac has a solid academic background in economics. She completed her studies with a degree in Economics at the Universitat de València, ranking 7th out of 205 students with a grade of 8,49. Subsequently, she furthered her education with an Official Master's Degree in Industrial Economics at the same institution, where she received the extraordinary prize for her outstanding performance. Her educational path culminated with a European PhD in Industrial Economics, successfully defending her thesis entitled "Export vs FDI under cost heterogeneity: strategic entry, pre-commitment and oligopolistic reaction" with the highest grade of outstanding cum laude in July 2012. The doctoral period was funded by a competitive grant from the Generalidad Valenciana for the training of research personnel (BFPI/2007/125). In addition, she spent 3 months in 2010 at the School of Economics, University of Nottingham, with the scholarship for pre-doctoral fellows and contract students in research centres outside the Valencian Community (BEFPI/2009/016), where she had the opportunity to collaborate with experts in international trade and imperfect competition, the field of her doctoral thesis.

Her research career is distinguished by its multidisciplinarity, covering various thematic areas and publishing in high impact journals:

1. Teaching innovation, ICT, artificial intelligence and assessment of teaching-learning outcomes: As principal investigator and member of several projects, she has developed interactive materials to improve learning and assessment in undergraduate studies, using audience response tools to encourage student participation and self-assessment. Among her outstanding projects are "Development of interactive and multidisciplinary materials to enhance learning and assessment in undergraduate studies" (https://pages.uv.es/piclickers/eng/index.wiki) and "360° Learning: transforming teaching with active learning, gamification and artificial intelligence". Her publications include book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals such as REALIA, HUMAN REVIEW and Sustainability, addressing topics such as employability and soft skills in teaching and the combination of ICT in the teaching-learning process.

2. Inequality of household expenditure from a regional analysis and also with a gender perspective: She has co-authored detailed studies on Spanish household expenditure, assessing regional and gender convergence, presenting papers at international conferences such as the II Open Russian Statistical Congress and publishing in journals such as Economy of Region. Co-authored with the tenured lecturer Mª Isabel López-Rodríguez.

3. Economic policy, public policy evaluation and international economic policy: She has addressed various topics from the perspective of economic policy including instrumental policies at national or EU level, economic policies and the labour market, economic policy evaluation, economic policy in India and South Africa, the origins of academic economic policy in Spain or stability programmes, among others. The results of her research have been published in several book chapters in leading publishers such as Aranzadi and Tirant lo Blanc. Her publications also include articles in the Eastern European Countryside, Sociologia del Lavoro or International Review of Economic Policy, as well as several contributions to international conferences.

4. Imperfect competition, oligopolies and internationalisation strategies via exports and FDI: Her doctoral thesis and several publications analyse internationalisation strategies under demand uncertainty and imperfect competition, with publications in journals such as Industrial Economics, Managerial and Decision Economics, Bulletin of Economic Research and The Manchester School. Co-authored with the thesis supervisor, Professor Rafael Moner-Colonques.

Her teaching experience spans more than a decade at the Universitat de València, where she has taught economics subjects at undergraduate and master's level. Her pedagogical approach is characterised by the integration of innovative technologies and methodologies, such as the use of clickers and virtual platforms for the continuous and participative evaluation of students. Such is her involvement in the area that it has led to a very prolific line of research.

She has held various management roles at the Universitat de València, contributing significantly to academic organisation and administration. She has been President of the Academic and Cultural Activities Committee of the Department of Applied Economics, where she managed and allocated budgets for cultural and academic activities, organising seminars, conferences and workshops. In addition, she is an elected member of the Faculty Board and the Senate of the University of Valencia, representing the Teaching and Research Staff (PDI) in several committees, participating in decision-making and strategic planning of the faculty. She has also supervised review proposals as Coordinator of the Review Section of the quarterly publication "Noticias de Política Económica", ensuring the quality and relevance of the publications. She has also been a member of various departmental committees, such as the Examination Challenge Committee and the Examination Custody Committee, where she has contributed to the resolution of academic disputes and the improvement of assessment procedures. She has been recently the coordinator of the Economic Policy Teaching Unit.

PhD in Economics (1994) with a dissertation on university funding and a model based on channeling resources directly to students. Visiting Professor at the Australian National University in 1996. Senior Lecturer at the University of Valencia since 1999. Within the field of Applied Economics, he has worked in Public Economics. He currently coordinates the core course "Public Sector Economics" I and II in the Economics degree program. He has published two textbooks on the subject with the University of Valencia Press. His articles in journals and newspapers have focused on issues related to tax design. Since 2020, he has incorporated, within Public Economics, a study on the proper design of a Social Security System, which is reflected in teaching the subject "Social Security Economics" in two master's programs at the University of Valencia.

Biography
 

Dr. Salvador Gil Pareja has a degree and PhD in Economic and Business Sciences from the Universitat de València (Extraordinary Award in both cases) and an MSc in Economics from University College London. He has done research visits at Fedea, the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank and at several Spanish universities. He is author of twenty book chapters and more than 50 articles published in prestigious journals such as European Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Review of World Economics, Review of International Economics, The World Economy or Oxford Economic Papers, among others. He was elected member of the board of directors and treasurer of the Spanish Association of Economics and International Finance (2005-2011), associate editor of the Revista de Economía Aplicada (2006-2016), coordinator of the Degree in Economics (2013-2015), head of the Department of Estructura Económica of the University of Valencia (2015-2021), and coordinator of the Double Degree in Law and Economics (since 2022). Moreover, he has participated in several teaching manuals and teaching innovation projects and he has received several recognitions and awards for his teaching.

Mauro Mediavilla is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Valencia. He is also a research associate at the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB), the European Foundation for Society and Education, and the Public Economic Evaluation Research Group (EVALPUB). He holds a PhD in Economics (2011) and was awarded the José Luis Moreno Becerra Prize for the best doctoral thesis in the field of Economics of Education (2013).

He currently serves as the vice-president of the Association for the Economics of Education (AEDE). His main research interests focus on the determinants of academic achievement and the evaluation of public policies in education.

In 2025, he has served as a consultant for UNESCO (PEER - Spain). He has also acted as a consultant for the UNESCO Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean, and as an advisor to the Prometheus Program of the Government of Ecuador (2014–2015), as well as to the Spending Review project (European Commission) for Spain, conducted by the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF) (2018–2019).

Additionally, he was a member of the expert committee for the scholarship system review in Spain, advising the Save the Children Foundation. He has undertaken research stays at several prestigious universities and research centres in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ecuador, Latvia, Serbia, and Romania.

Since 2005, he has participated continuously in numerous competitive research projects at both the national and regional levels. He has authored over 70 publications, including articles in indexed journals, books, and book chapters.

Óscar Muñoz González és professor ajudant doctor al Departament d’Economia Aplicada de la Facultat d’Economia de la Universitat de València. La seua activitat docent se centra principalment en el Grau en Relacions Laborals i Recursos Humans. La seua trajectòria investigadora s’especialitza en l’àmbit de les cures de llarga durada (CLD), amb un enfocament en les condicions laborals de les cuidadores en l’entorn domèstic.

La seua tesi doctoral, defensada el 2021, porta per títol "Los cuidados de larga duración a personas mayores y/o en situación de dependencia en el ámbito del hogar en un contexto de crisis económica. Estudio cualitativo para el Área Metropolitana de València", i representa una aportació rellevant a l’estudi de les cures en contextos de vulnerabilitat i crisi.

Graduated in Business Administration and Management, master's degree in Big Data and Business Intelligence and doctor in Industrial Economics from the University of Valencia. In his doctoral thesis, for which he received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award, he focused on the generation of tools and procedures to build quality datasets. He has participated in various research projects related to the generation of quality data and the proposal of socioeconomic indicators. Some examples are: “Understanding individual behavior in a dynamic context: Information, Culture and Institutions” (PID2021-128228NB-I00IP), funded by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation or “Information, context, characteristics and preferences: mediators of economic change And social. Luz Dary Ramírez Franco holds a PhD in Rule of Law and Global Governance from the University of Salamanca and is a Permanent Lecturer in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Valencia, where she has been carrying out her teaching and research activity since 2021. Her academic career combines research, teaching, internationalisation, and university management, with a particular specialisation in economic policy, comparative analysis, governance, and circular economy. She has also been awarded a six-year research assessment period (sexenio de investigación), recognised from 2025.

Her research activity has been developed within both national and international competitive projects. She is currently a member of the research team of the project Impulsando la Gestión de Activos Inmobiliarios Públicos: un estudio multidisciplinar de ciudades españolas (2025–2029), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities under the 2024 call for Knowledge Generation Projects, within the Non-Oriented Research scheme. She also participates in the European project CULT.T. Culture and Technology (2024–2026), funded by the European Commission, and was previously a member of the project MESOC: Measuring the Social Dimension of Culture (2020–2023), likewise funded by the European Commission and focused on measuring the social impact of culture. In addition, she participated in the INNOVAGEN project (2022–2024), funded by the University of Valencia, aimed at incorporating and updating the gender perspective in university teaching.

In earlier stages of her career, her research profile was consolidated through participation in R&D projects related to economic analysis, productivity, regional heterogeneity, and economic growth, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Ministry of Education and Science. This trajectory demonstrates sustained research continuity and long-standing integration into competitive research teams.

Her academic profile has been further strengthened through research and teaching stays at prestigious European and Latin American universities, including the University of Nottingham (2017), the University of Liverpool (2016), the University of Würzburg (2011), Universidad EAFIT (2023), the University of Sonora (2018–2019), and the University of Concepción (2018). These stays have contributed to consolidating an international and comparative perspective in her lines of research, as well as stable networks of academic collaboration.

In the field of teaching, she has delivered undergraduate and postgraduate courses in subjects such as applied economics, economic policy, econometrics, circular economy, the structure of tourism markets, and the analysis of socio-labour policies. Ángel Soler Guillén holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Valencia. From 1996 to 2019, he served as a research technician at the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie), and from 2010 to 2019, he was an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Economic Structure at the University of Valencia.

He is currently an Associate Researcher at Ivie, tenured professor in the Department of Applied Economics, and Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia. He also serves as Director of the Statistical Portal on the Social Economy (CIRIECSTAT).

He has participated in several international research projects, including EUKLEMS, SPINTAN, INDICSER, and EISMEA. His main fields of specialization include economics of education, labour market analysis, migration, and the social economy.
