Mr Eduardo Enrique Taléns Visconti, former student of the Master’s degree and the first promotion of the Doctoral Programme in Law, Business and Justice, defended his Doctoral Thesis last Monday 30 May. The thesis, named ‘Contrato de trabajo y concurso de acreedores’ (Employment Contract and Body of Creditors in Bankrupcy), was directed by the honourable Mr Ángel Blasco Pellicer, Judge of the Chamber of Social Matters of the Supreme Court and Full University Professor of the Faculty of Law of the Universitat de València, where the event took place with many attendants.

The Tribunal that valued his work was formed by renowned and prominent jurists with high professional prestige. In this particular case, the assessment of the thesis was carried out by the honourable Mr Francisco Pérez de los Cobos, President of the Spanish Constitutional Court, who was the president; Dr José María Goerlich, Full University Professor of the Universitat de València, as a secretary; and Dr Ana De la Puebla, Full University Professor of the Autonomous University of Madrid and also its General Secretary, as spokesperson. All of them agreed that the work was excellent and highlighted the expository clarity, solvency of the use of the information sources and the relevance of the conclusions. They also pointed out that, if published, we could be before a reference work within the subject matter, The members of the Tribunal, by unanimity, qualified the work with a Summa Cum Laude distinction.

The thesis is a rigorous study about the judicial system of the employment contract when the employer is in a bankruptcy process. Within this subject matter it is important to bear in mind the legislation of the different knowledge areas. This is why the legal interpretation is not always clear and unambiguous. Furthermore, during the last few years and as a consequence of the strong economical crisis in Spain, several new Law Reform have been implemented in order to correct or alleviate the effects of this situation in the many businesses that were declared in body of creditors in bankruptcy. All these circumstances have reopened a great quantity of legal questions to which the author tries to answer in his thesis.

From the Direction of the Master’s Degree and the Doctoral Programme in Law, Business and Justice we are very pleased with the students of such studies, we share their success and are very happy for them. We take this opportunity to express our warmest congratulations to our friend and former student Eduardo Enrique Taléns. We hope all the work he has been carrying on along these years can be translated into a successful academic projection.
