The internship will take place at the Office of the Special Coordinator on Improving the United Nations Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of the United Nations in New York from 4 October. Although, due to the pandemic, the internship will be carried out telematically.
Sexual exploitation and abuse by International Peacekeeping Forces were an issue, especially in Central African Republic based on the report submitted in December, 2015 and were tainting the integrity and the reputation of the United Nations, which surely resulted in losing trust from every member of states and all the stakeholders and damaging the harmony that the United Nations has been seeking.
Facing this reality, the Office of the Special Coordinator on Improving the United Nations Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse was established to reinforce the on-going tasks of the elimination of any kinds of sexual exploitation and abuse with zero tolerance policy, whose approach mainly consists in prevention, response and victim assistance.
In doing so, the Office has been implementing four strategies across the United Nations system globally: Prioritizing the rights of victims, risk mitigation and ending impunity, engaging with civil society and external partners and Improving strategic communications for education and transparency since January 2017.
Responsabilities:
- Research on issues related to the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse including data collection and analysis.
- Support in implementing internal and external communications strategies through the use of web-based tools.
- Providing general office support services; drafting and/or processing a variety of correspondence and other communications.
