The European Council is looking for consultants specialised in Human Rights

The General Council of Spanish Law has sent us this job offer from European Council where they are looking for international advisers for their Member States. The consultants will contribute with their knowledge to a better application of Human Rights regulations in Europe, providing support on Human Rights issues through the contribution of knowledge and the delivery of different activities related to thematic and methodological training.

The candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • University diploma in Law, Political Science, Human Rights or similar;
  • Professional experience of 5 years or more in Human Rights / Rule of Law;
  • Professional experience of 3 years or more in providing the specific service (analysis of legislation, work on systemic reform, assessment of institutional needs, development and implementation of training, etc.);
  • Excellent spoken and written English level.

European Council has an extensive network of consultants with knowledge of international regulations and different European systems (international consultants) and consultants with knowledge of the domestic system in which the activities are implemented (national consultants). This combination ensures that the European Standards Board is understood and applied, taking into account the national context, including the legislative framework.

The European Council is supporting the correct implementation of the ECHR (European Convention on Human Rights) and other European human rights standards at national level in its 47 Member States through cooperation programmes, financed either through its regular budget or through extra-budgetary resources, through the EU, CoE's own programmes, the Human Rights Trust Fund or voluntary contributions. These projects include support for structural changes through legislative advice and capacity building in various areas of Human Rights, in cooperation with the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP), the only pan-European network of e-learning that provides training for law professionals in all 47 member states.

The deadline for submitting applications to the European Council is on 12th May 2016.
