On 15 January 2026, Alejandro Chaparro Uribe, a former student of the University Master’s Degree in Law, Business and Justice at our University, successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies: From Barriers to Opportunities for 21st-Century Chilean Justice”. The defence took place at the University of Valencia under the supervision of Professor Silvia Barona Vilar, highlighting the relevance of his work in the current Chilean context.

Chaparro’s research focuses on how artificial intelligence can contribute to improving access to justice in Chile, a system which, according to the newly awarded Doctor, has historically been characterised by inequalities. His thesis analyses the necessary conditions for AI to be used as a tool that benefits all citizens, rather than perpetuating existing disparities.
