Dr Agustín Benito has participated in the Congress “New sanitary challenges of the 21st Century”

Within the activities carried out for this course in the UV University Master’s Degree of Tropical Parasite Diseases, Dr Agustín Benito Llanes taught the conference “Systems of biological alarm and surveillance in infections” within the frame of the Sixth Congress on “New Sanitary Challenges of the 21st Century” which took place at the UV Faculty of Pharmacy.

The Congress addressed to UV Pharmacy students, was organised by the UV and the Faculty of Pharmacy and counted with round tables and debates with sanitary experts, as well as the realisation of educational workshops which complement the talks and exposition of studies by the doctors.

Concretely, Dr Benito, who participated in the Congress’ first session, is Head of the National Centre for Tropical Medicine which is part of the Carlos III Health Institute, position he has held since 2004.

The Madrilenian Doctor graduated in Biological Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid in 1987 and was appointed Doctor in Biology by the same university ten years after.  During his professional activity, he has held the following positions in public institutions:


> Adjunct member of the Parasitology Service of the National Centre for Microbiology since 1993.


> Technical Director for the Programme to the fight against Malaria of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation during 1989 to 1992.


> Full researcher of the Carlos III Health Institute (Ministry of Science and Innovation) since 2003.

It is worth mentioning, also, that he is a founding partner and vocal of the First Directive Board of the Spanish Society of Tropical Medicine and International Health during 1998-2006, Coordinator of the Cooperative Research Network in Tropical Diseases (RICET) of the ISCIII since 2005 until now and Coordinator of the Centre of Reference for the Control of Endemic Disease of Equatorial Guinea from 2005 until 2010.


Dr Benito has been main researcher in around twenty national and international projects in calls and more that sixty scientific publications with impact factor on the best magazines of Tropical Medicine and International Health. He is evaluator for the ANEP and Referee in several international magazines of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases and member of several scientific committees of publications among which is the REDES journal of Farmaindustria.

From the Master’s degree in Tropical Parasitic Diseases we work every day, together with our faculty, to enrich as much as possible the students experience, and we will continue with collaborations of the best national and international Parasitology experts in order to offer the most complete information for the future professionals.
